Ben Oostdam's Journal of Three Years (1954-1957) in
T H A I L A N D
DATE : January 2,1955
LOCATION : some 100 miles east of Bangkok, Thailand
We were riding along a narrow trail and I had just carefully negotiated
passing over an outcropping tree-root, when I felt something flying close overhead.
Apparently, this was Jan's leg which he had hit because he kept
his very large feet sticking out at ninety degrees ! ......
This manoeuver ("pedoeuvre" would be a better term") saved him from a worse fate, and we made it home 'safely' .
The doctor was not quite sure whether Jan's ankle was broken or just somewhat disoriented; Jan did manage to go to work (on the back of the scooter)
but was sore the rest of the month.
I felt a bit guilty, but he sportingly allowed
that it was his mistake. Thanks, Jan!
